Coconut-Fiber Composite Concrete: Assessment of Mechanical Performance and Environmental Benefits

The purpose of this qualification work is to study the physical and mechanical behavior concrete with addition 0.5% 1% coconut fiber, which has been subjected two chemical treatments reduce its degradation. fibers were extracted from raw material cut into pieces 4 cm long. Subsequently, treatments. first involved immersing in 4% sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution, second treatment coating them gum arabic silica fume. A total 50 samples collected their natural post-treated state be tested. dosage was prepared for design strengths 210 240 kg/cm2 (20.59 23.54 MPa), so that percentages volume selected, replaced respective coarse aggregates. cylinders had best performance strength 20.59 MPa, including without fibers. Those presented better MPa dosage, although lower than In all cases, NaOH-treated outperformed counterparts treated Finally, a CO2 balance determined, an environmental gain up 14 kg emissions established each cubic meter composite concrete.
